Welcome to Heroes ACE!
Hello there fellow whovians, muggles, jedi’s, and siths. My name is Josh and I am husband, a father of two and bonus father to three, a Canadian Certified Counsellor, an EMDR trained therapist and an Complex Care & Intervention coach. I work primarily with children & youth, and their parents regarding anxiety, depression, attachment and trauma (single, multiple, and complex).
The idea of Heroes ACE came to me after attending the 2017 Calgary Comic Expo where two psychiatrists (Dr. Sterling Sparshu and Dr. Sudhakar Sivapalan) discussed “What if Batman had a good Psychiatrist?” and then proceeded to talk about PTSD and Grief in a non-threatening and entertaining way.
I wanted to discuss complex trauma, a heavy topic, using heroes and villains; but also discuss if they have experienced post-traumatic stress or post-traumatic growth. Using the Adverse Childhood Experiences and Protective Childhood Experiences survey and the five pillars of Positive Psychology: Positive Emotions, Engagement, positive Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment (PERMA); we’ll see how our heroes, heroines, and villains have managed their childhood experiences.
